I just came across this bit of sad news (via IBOAI Blog):

The IBOAI, Amway Global and all IBOs recently lost a great friend and advocate, Dick Davis. After a courageous battle with cancer, Dick passed away on March 11, 2009.

Dick had served as a business manager for Worldwide Dream Builders for over 25 years. In addition, he had served as a consultant to Amway Global and the IBOAI. In 2006, Dick received the Fred Hansen Spirit Award for meritorious service to the IBOAI; the Fred Hansen Spirit Award is the highest honor a non-Board member can receive from the IBOAI.

Amway A Big Part Of Energy Drink Growth In India: Energy Drink Sales In India To Double In Two Years

Energy drinks market set to double in next two years | mydigitalfc.com

The energy drinks market in India is expected to double in size over the next couple of years as a host national and international players venture into the segment. The market for such drinks is expected to double in size to Rs 1,000 crore over the next two years from Rs 500 crore presently.

Energy drinks in India till a year back were dominated by players such as Rhino’s, Bullet, Cloud 9 and Red Bull among others has suddenly spruced. Sales, however, started picking up post the entry of established players such as Pepsi and Amway.

Pepsi has been marketing its energy drink SoBe since November last year while Amway XL has been around for nearly seven months now. Red Bull and Power Horse, who have been around for a couple of years now, perhaps were the only existing players to be marketing such products aggressively.

Amway believes that the fun drinks such as colas segment has declined by five per cent in the last two years. “With the positive changes in the perception of health and fitness in India, we foresee a huge potential for supplementary drinks like XL,” William Pinckney, managing director & chief executive officer, Amway India told Financial Chronicle.

Amway sells health drinks under the Amway XL label which comes in two flavours — Citrus Blast and Tropical Blast, priced at Rs 450 for a pack of six.

Amway China Visits Taiwan

Taiwan opposition DPP criticizes police protection of Amway China visitors – Taiwan News Online

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The opposition Democratic Progressive Party on Monday accused police of treating Taiwanese people like hooligans by their excessive protection of Amway China visitors.

The Chinese branch of the U.S.-based direct sales company is sending up to 12,000 of its agents and employees on nine incentive cruises to Taiwan between March and May in the biggest-ever such event since the opening of direct shipping links last year.

The police set up a special task force to work out how to accompany the Chinese visitors, while no such precautions were taken when a separate group of wealthy Japanese women visited Taiwan, said Hsu Chia-ching, a DPP member of the Taipei City Council.

For the six Amway groups which already visited Taiwan, police mobilized a total of 441 officers to stand guard outside the restaurant where the Chinese had lunch, Hsu said.

Amway Heir Rick DeVos Making Big Announcement in Grand Rapids

Mlive:

GRAND RAPIDS — A large-scale event that “will draw the world’s attention to Grand Rapids” will be announced Thursday morning by Amway heir Rick DeVos, according to a source familiar with his plans.

Knowing the announcement involves an event helps to narrow down what he will be unveiling — it won’t be a place like a movie studio or a new product, despite speculation that has been bubbling since The Press reported on Saturday that DeVos was holding a gathering to announce “a major initiative that will affect the city of Grand Rapids for years to come.”

Yanni Rocks Amway Arena

Heh…OK maybe “rocks” is a strong word.

Orlando Centinel Blogs:

When it comes to genre-bending artistic leaps, adding vocals to the Yanni canon isn’t exactly like Bob Dylan going electric.

Yet it’s the presence of voices that inspires the name of Yanni’s new album and tour, the latter stopping Tuesday at Amway Arena.

As a new wrinkle, the idea worked well on several levels. Mainly, singers Nathan Pacheco, Chloe, Ender Thomas and Leslie Mills injected personality into music that, although lovely, still leans toward the formulaic.

In a two-hour production that incorporated considerable choreography, the show smartly tapped into some pop-culture touchstones.

With four singers sharing the spotlight, an immediate rooting interest surfaced in an American Idol way. “We looovvee you, Chloe!” a woman shouted in the early going.

Amway India Purchasing New Headquarters

Amway, a global leader in multilevel marketing, plans to invest nearly Rs 185 crore in India over the next two-three years, to buy space for its headquarters in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Sources reported that the company is presently in talks with various developers and looking at an area with sizes varying between 30,000 sq ft and 50,000 sq ft in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida.

Apart from buying space in NCR, the company has intention to setup eight new centres about 8,000-10,000 sq ft each, across various locations in the country.

The company believes that each centre will require an investment of about Rs 2-4 crore.

Further, the company is also planning to expand its distributor base in next 10 years to nine lakh personnel and increase the number of its offices to 300.

Amway India, a wholly owned Indian subsidiary of the US based 8.2 billion Amway Corporation, currently has 127 offices and pick-up centers at many places, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Pune. In addition, the company has 55 warehouses, which are outsourced to service partners.

Amway India Scales Back Growth Target

From MLM Biz Opps

The Economic Times:

Direct selling fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company Amway India has scaled down its business growth projections 25 per cent in 2009, as against the 40 per cent growth it registered in 2008, a top company official said here Monday.

“The current year’s targeted growth rate is an optimistic figure in the FMCG segment given the general slowdown in the economy,” William S Pinckney, company managing director and chief executive told reporters here.

According to him, Amway’s focus is on improving the consumer access and the first step towards online sales by revamping its website.

Broadly, the Rs 1,128-crore Amway India operates in four categories – nutrition, cosmetics, personal care and homecare.

Pinckney also said Amway planned to add about 100,000 direct sellers, adding: “People who have lost their jobs owing to the economic slowdown can consider taking up our distributorship. Nearly 60 per cent of the direct sellers stay with the company.”
