This is a funny video that I saw some time ago, but just ran across it again. If you don’t want to watch the video, the guy buys like items from Meijer and Quixtar (Amway). The comparison comes out to Meijer = $26 and change and Amway = over $80.

Energy drinks market set to double in next two years | mydigitalfc.com

The energy drinks market in India is expected to double in size over the next couple of years as a host national and international players venture into the segment. The market for such drinks is expected to double in size to Rs 1,000 crore over the next two years from Rs 500 crore presently.

Energy drinks in India till a year back were dominated by players such as Rhino’s, Bullet, Cloud 9 and Red Bull among others has suddenly spruced. Sales, however, started picking up post the entry of established players such as Pepsi and Amway.

Pepsi has been marketing its energy drink SoBe since November last year while Amway XL has been around for nearly seven months now. Red Bull and Power Horse, who have been around for a couple of years now, perhaps were the only existing players to be marketing such products aggressively.

Amway believes that the fun drinks such as colas segment has declined by five per cent in the last two years. “With the positive changes in the perception of health and fitness in India, we foresee a huge potential for supplementary drinks like XL,” William Pinckney, managing director & chief executive officer, Amway India told Financial Chronicle.

Amway sells health drinks under the Amway XL label which comes in two flavours — Citrus Blast and Tropical Blast, priced at Rs 450 for a pack of six.

GRAND RAPIDS — A large-scale event that “will draw the world’s attention to Grand Rapids” will be announced Thursday morning by Amway heir Rick DeVos, according to a source familiar with his plans.

Knowing the announcement involves an event helps to narrow down what he will be unveiling — it won’t be a place like a movie studio or a new product, despite speculation that has been bubbling since The Press reported on Saturday that DeVos was holding a gathering to announce “a major initiative that will affect the city of Grand Rapids for years to come.”

The Economic Times:

Direct selling fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company Amway India has scaled down its business growth projections 25 per cent in 2009, as against the 40 per cent growth it registered in 2008, a top company official said here Monday.

“The current year’s targeted growth rate is an optimistic figure in the FMCG segment given the general slowdown in the economy,” William S Pinckney, company managing director and chief executive told reporters here.

According to him, Amway’s focus is on improving the consumer access and the first step towards online sales by revamping its website.

Broadly, the Rs 1,128-crore Amway India operates in four categories – nutrition, cosmetics, personal care and homecare.

Pinckney also said Amway planned to add about 100,000 direct sellers, adding: “People who have lost their jobs owing to the economic slowdown can consider taking up our distributorship. Nearly 60 per cent of the direct sellers stay with the company.”
