Amway Global is reporting a record setting $8.2 Billion in sales for 2008.  The number I am mostly interested in are the sales in North America.  Thus far I am unable to find North America sales which include the former Quixtar. My suspicion is that North America sales (where the TV marketing blitz took place) were flat or down.

mLive:

ADA TOWNSHIP — The global economic meltdown of 2008 apparently had more Amway Global representatives pounding the pavement for vitamins, cosmetics and other products.

The Ada Township-based direct-selling giant had a record $8.2 billion in sales in 2008, co-founder Rich DeVos told The Press on Friday after a topping-off ceremony at Helen DeVos Childrens Hospital.

The figure represents a 15 percent increase from the $7.1 billion in sales reported for 2007. The privately held company, which doesn’t release profitability figures, expects to make an official statement regarding its sales next week, a spokeswoman said.

The improved sales came after Amway launched a marketing spree reintroducing the brand to many consumers through partnerships with Tina Turner, John Tesh, soccer star Ronaldinho and others. The company also retired the Quixtar brand, which it used for online sales in the United States and Canada.

In the August issue of Achieve Magazine, Quixtar’s (Amway Global – North America’s) recognition and information periodical, the company reported nine new Platinums.

A Q-12 Platinum in Quixtar earns an average of $47,472 (before taxes and expenses) and it is safe to say that the majority of Platinums do not qualify as Q-12 Platinums, so the true average for these Platinums is going to be significantly less (probably more than $10,000 less).

When I was involved with Amway in the 90′s there would be pages and pages of new Platinums in the magazine, (at the time the magazine was called the Amagram). It would be safe to say that ten times the number of Platinums would be posted in a given month.

To understand how bad things are at Amway Global (Quixtar) right now, Amway Global in North America has been hovering around the Billion dollar a year level in sales for the last 5 years with somewhere in the neighborhood of 800,000 IBOs involved. To only have 9 new Platinums out of 800,000 IBOs is horrible.

Lack of time and rising food costs are main wellness barriers; free events at YMCAs Sept. 20 to help Americans with wellness goals

ADA, Mich., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ — While 93 percent of Americans report attempting to make everyday choices to be healthy and live well, nearly half (47 percent) struggle to do so, according to the Amway Global Wellness Index, a recent national survey of more than 15,000 Americans regarding their health and wellness. The two main barriers that prevent people from living a healthier lifestyle are lack of time (39 percent) and the rising cost of a balanced diet (21 percent). The top three wellness challenges, according to survey respondents, are getting enough exercise, getting enough sleep and maintaining a well-balanced diet. (Note: Statistics are available for each state.)

The Economy, Election, Wellness

Forty-two percent of Americans report that the economy is having a negative impact on their wellness choices, and personal wellness issues will affect the results of the election. In fact, 33 percent of Americans claim that the candidates’ positions on personal wellness will influence how they vote this election. Current economic conditions appear to have a greater impact on the unemployed, with the wellness of 51 percent of non-working parents negatively impacted, versus 43 percent of working parents. According to survey respondents, the health decisions of women are affected more by the economy than men (44 percent versus 40 percent, respectively).

Area chambers to develop ‘west is best’ policy – Muskegon Chronicle – MLive.com

Amway co-founder Rich DeVos, who will discuss leadership during one session, said the event will showcase the differences between how business is done in West Michigan versus the eastern side of the state.

“The climate on this side of the state is very different,” DeVos said. “The people around here are productive and get things done. People don’t spend all their time arguing.

“Detroit, because of its union mentality, always spends its time arguing and fighting. We’re going to talk about getting on with the job.”

My Community: Assignment #2

When I was a Junior in high school, I attended a Quixtar meeting with my brother and his friends. Quixtar is a company in which people decide to be a part of and basically become entrepreneurs. Three or four of my brother’s friends were already members of Quixtar and they were trying to convince him to join the company also.

At the meeting, there were multiple presenters as well as a PowerPoint about how much money you can make through Quixtar and how easy the whole process can be to become a millionaire. After the meeting people stuck around for a while to talk about the company and try to convince those not yet a part of it to join. I was not old enough at the time (only 16 or so) but my brother and I had decided to just tell everyone that I was over 18. Multiple people came up to my brother and I and told us about how much money they are making through Quixtar and how easy the whole process is in hopes that we too will pay the couple hundred dollar fee to join.

Soon enough the meeting came to an end and we left to return home. I thought that the whole Quixtar idea was a terrible one and that no one in their right mind would sign up for it. My brother, however, decided to give it a try and was a member of it for a year. After the first year however, he got his head back and realized that the amount of work required to make any type of money with the company is not worth it unless it is your only job. His friends, though, are still a part of the Quixtar company to this day.

Amway Talk • View topic – Price decreases

Amway have decreased the prices on some of their core line products.

Quickly perusing the new catalogue last night, which was mailed out to all IBO’s, there have been SIGNIFICANT “price adjustments” to the Tolsom range and the Satinique shampoos.

Perhaps there are others. As I said it was a quick perusal.

New MagnaBloc™ Product Available from Gradient Medical

New MagnaBloc™ Product Available from Gradient Medical

Gradient Medical recently started offering QuadraBloc™, a new and improved version of AmWay’s MagnaBloc.

Memphis, TN (PRWEB) July 2, 2008 — AmWay’s MagnaBloc™, a long-popular form of pain management, is now available in a new, stronger form: QuadraBloc™, offered by Gradient Medical.

“QuadraBloc has already been released in the United States, and will be available worldwide within 60 sixty days,” said John Townsend, President of Gradient Medical, LLC. “We will also be releasing several new products within the next few weeks.”

QuadraBloc has already been released in the United States, and will be available worldwide within 60 sixty days
Put simply, the QuadraBloc uses magnetic principles to disrupt the transduction of the electrochemical pain signals to the brain. QuadraBloc uses not one but four magnets and a focusing ring placed in a square or diamond pattern. For maximum pain management the QuadraBloc is placed directly over the irritated nerve, where the gradient of the magnetic field has the strongest impact on the nerve’s pain signal.

“QuadraBloc is between two and four times stronger than MagnaBloc,” Townsend said. “This technology offers an alternative for superior pain relief for people with back pain, sports injuries, and other sources of chronic pain.”

The principles that the QuadraBloc is based on were first published in Environmental Science in 1991. In addition, the device’s effectiveness is supported by more than a decade of cell research at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and at the Center for Pain Research and Neuromagnetics at the University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as numerous other studies performed around the world. To eliminate the experimenters’ biases, several of the studies done have been “double blinded,” which is where neither the doctor nor the patient know which group the patient is in: the experimental group, which uses the QuadraBloc device, or the control group, which uses a “placebo” or a dummy device.

“The principles used in creating the QuadraBloc have been scientifically researched and well documented,” Townsend said. “All of the results to date demonstrate that QuadraBlocs are safe, low in cost and remarkably effective in treating a large variety of aches and pains.”

Townsend indicated that the product has not been approved by FDA, has been sold as an OTC product in 40 countries including the US and is not intended to obviate the need to seek professional assistance for health care professionals.
